Switzerland-based inspection, verification, testing and certification company, SGS, has won a contract from West African Ventures (WAV), to provide non-destructive testing services for its Escravos Gas Project (EGP-3) in Nigeria.

As per the agreement, SGS will perform non-destructive testing on 18 kilometers (km) of a 24 inch diameter pipeline. The company will also inspect the pipe material and welds that join each section of the newly constructed pipeline on the Jacson 30 pipelay crane vessel. It would use internal industrial X-Ray crawlers, ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle inspection to carry out the examination.

The project is scheduled to be completed in April 2013, according to a statement on SGS website. The EGP-3 is located within the Niger Delta and 100km southeast of Lagos and is being developed to harness the rich gas resources discovered at the Escravos field.

Production at the gas field started in late 2012 and the project is expected to further reap 395 million cubic feet of gas per day.
