We’ll extend trader-moni scheme to states for more beneficiaries – Osibanjo

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the Trader-Moni/Market-Moni schemes introduced by his administration would be extended to states to allow for more beneficiaries into the scheme, the government has said.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who disclosed this during an assessment visit of the loan facility in Keffi, said expanding the scheme to states would give room for more people in remote areas to be empowered.

He revealed that government was going to expand the current scheme to service the people on interest-free loan in keeping with the promises they made to Nigerians.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has given a directive that the Market Moni/Trader Moni loan programme would be extended to all the states of the federation.

“The idea for the extension of the federal government’s Market Moni/Trader Moni to all the states of the federation is to make sure that the empowerment initiative of the present administration achieves the intended objective,” the Vice President said.

While reminding the beneficiaries of the loan programme that they were going to pay back the loan facility in order to pave the way for other persons to benefit afterwards, he said: “We want to assure you that we are going to do more as President Muhammadu Buhari has directed us to expand the scheme so that those who have not benefited from the Trader Moni and Market Moni will also benefit”.

“It is very important to pay back the money for sustainability and so that the scheme will work effectively.”

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who toured the loan facilities with Osibanjo, applauded the Federal Government for taking the loan scheme to Nasarawa State which in no small measure will contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of the state.

The Executive Director, Bank of Industry, Toyin Adeniji, said that about 3,000 beneficiaries of the scheme were enrolled in the past three days, and hoped that more would be enrolled over time.
