In a statement signed by Chris Adokeme, national president of the association, the alumni described both men as illustrious, people focused and credible alumni of the unique university.

Adokeme, a lawyer and member of the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt, stated that he was convinced that both alumni would deliver on their mandate irrespective of their assigned portfolios.

The alumni in the statement made available to BusinessDay in Yenagoa by Ono Akpe, national public relations officer, noted with deep pleasure the opportunity of producing two ministers who graduated from the school adding that they are competent leaders in their own right.

Saying that their nomination by President Buhari is a laudable move, the association pledged to support their own throughout their tenure while congratulating them for their nominations.

According Adokeme, Uniport is noted for producing high quality professionals who are well grounded in various aspects of human endeavour and assured that the ministers designate are well equipped intellectually to make effective contributions to national development.

He explained that the university has consistently produced credible leaders including the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan who he described as University of Port Harcourt’s unique gift to Nigeria.

Adokeme pointed out that Sylva and Amaechi are tested, tried and trusted by their people whom they represent as both men had rendered valuable service as governors of their respective states at one time or the other.

His words: “I wish to congratulate you on your new appointment and wish you every success in your duties. Please, be assured that you have our full support.

“I wish you the best in this new term of office, we pledge our further support and look forward to productive collaboration between the ministers designate and the association.”

Adokeme, however, noted that the association is elated that President Buhari has seen in the two distinguished leaders qualities that would help in taking Nigeria to another level.

Meanwhile, both Sylva and Amaechi have been screened by the National Assembly awaiting swearing in and assigning of portfolios by the president.
