Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by the Air Component, launched clearance operations across the Shinkafi, Kagara, Fakai, Moriki, Maiwa, and Chindo axis in Zamfara State. The operation resulted in the elimination of several terrorists, including the son of the notorious terrorist leader, Bello Turji, who was killed on the Fakai high ground where the group was hiding.
This was disclosed in a statement issued Sunday night by Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations. According to the statement, the operation delivered a decisive blow to the terrorists, with many killed and their logistics hub destroyed.
It noted that several hostages held captive by Bello Turji’s group were also rescued. The statement added that Bello Turji fled the scene in what he described as a “gross cowardly act,” abandoning his son and other fighters as the troops intensified their firepower.
In a related development, troops dismantled another terrorist stronghold operated by a kingpin known as Idi Mallam along Zango Kagara Forest. During the encounter, three terrorists were neutralized, and three suspected collaborators were arrested.
The troops recovered significant weaponry, including two machine guns and an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Additionally, they rescued 61 rustled cattle and 44 sheep, along with other items.
The military emphasized its ongoing commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country. The military stated that the troops remain resolute in sustaining their onslaught against criminal elements, bringing much-needed security to affected regions.
