Election petition tribunals sitting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, and Jos, on Monday upheld the elections of Ifeanyi Okowa as the governor of Delta State, and Simon Lalong as governor of Plateau State, respectively.
In Jos, the chairman of the tribunal Justice Johnson Candide in the ruling dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party Candidate (PDP) candidate Gyang Pwajok for what he described as lack of credible evidence to prove his petition.
In Asaba, BusinessDay reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had April 11, 2015, declared Ifeanyi Okowa the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner of the election.
The INEC had at the gubernatorial election declared the PDP governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa as winner having scored majority votes of 724,680 as against Great Ogboru of Labour Party with 130,028 votes and O’tega Emerhor of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who scored 67,825 votes.
Dissatisfied with the INEC declaration, Great Ovedje Ogboru and his All Progressives Congress counterpart however approached the election petition tribunal, praying it to nullify the election and order for rerun.
