Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s bid to establish a renal and cardiac hospital in Sokoto has received a major boost as the Indian government said it is ready to play an active role in ensuring the success of the project.
Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, B.N Reddy, stated this when he visited Governor Tambuwal in Abuja.
According to a press statement issued by Imam Imam, which media aide to the governor made available to BusinessDay on Wednesday, the envoy said his home government is seeking to expand cooperations with Nigeria in the medical and other sectors, pointing out that the proposed Sokoto hospital was an opportunity to take active part.
The Envoy who made the disclosure while receiving Governor Tambuwal in his office in Abuja, added that the relationship between his country and Nigeria has been cordial, and both countries are working to enhance it.
In his remarks, Tambuwal said the cardiac and renal centre will be the best in the country and will serve patients from Nigeria and other West African countries.
“It will be a centre of excellence and having it on ground in Sokoto will enhance medical tourism and help Nigeria conserve much needed foreign currencies which many of our country men and women expend to seek treatments abroad,” the Governor said.
The two leaders also pledged to boost trade and commerce, mining, agriculture and educational ties between their citizens.
