The senator representing Bayelsa Central in the National Assembly, Emmanuel Paulker has raised an alarm over the omission of Bayelsa State in the ambassadorial nominees list sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Paulker, who raised a Point of Order under ‘Order 43, Personal Explanation’ said he and other senators from the state had been inundated with phone calls from members of their constituency over the omission of Bayelsa State in the ambassadorial nominees list.
Recall that Buhari last week sent a list of 47 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
According to Paulker, in the Foreign Affairs Ministry there are two Bayelsans who are deputy directors that President Buhari would have nominated as ambassadors.
He said it was more worrisome that while the state is lamenting its non-inclusion in the ambassadorial list, other states have up to three nominees.
He said: “In the list there are some states that have up to three in number. Non-inclusion of any Bayelsans on the list is a clear violation of the constitution”.
In his response, Senate President, Bukola Saraki asked the Committee on Foreign Affairs to take note of the development before carrying out the screening of the nominees.
