Renewable energy would receive a boost this year as the Federal Government intensifies efforts at providing electricity to rural dwellers and reducing carbon emission.
Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, in a statement signed by Ibrahim Haruna and made available to BusinessDay in Abuja, said that the plan was to explore the abundant renewable energy sources like mini hydro, solar wind, coal, bio mass in the country.
The minister told the delegation of German parliament led by the German ambassador to Nigeria, Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel, that Nigeria has abundance of both natural and human resources which are yet to be tapped optimally while he also lamented the power situation in the country which is far below expectation.
He thus urged the German government to assist the country in the area of power supply, asking them to take advantage of the nation’s huge investment opportunities, most especially in the power sector.
Also, Minister of State for Power, Zainab Ibrahim Kuchi, stated that government has done a lot of feasibility studies on mini-hydro power in the country and as such needs private investors to implement the projects.
