Red Cross trains 150 Taraba youths in First Aid management

The Nigerian Red Cross Society today trained 150 youths in Taraba state in basic First Aid across four local government areas of the state.

This is part of activities of the organization usually carried out in every quarter of the year.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the training session in one of the communities in Alingora in Ardo Kola local government, Training Officer, Innocent Bala said the training was aimed at building the capacity of volunteer youths in communities to respond to emergency situations.

According to him, the training will equip volunteers with basic knowledge in caring for the sick and the wounded using the first aid response kits as well as locally available resources within the community with a view to saving lives before final evacuation to the hospital.

Bala explained that the programme which is targeted at youths especially in crisis prone areas is to enable them assist victims in case of eventuality and render first aid services.

“The objective of this training is to build the capacity of community volunteers to respond in case of emergencies, crisis situations and even accidents.

“If there is an emergency where one is bleeding seriously, the individual could lose his life if immediate care or first aid is not administered, but with community volunteers on ground, several lives could be saved,” he said.

Some of the participants who spoke to our correspondent commended the efforts of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in making them play active roles in their communities.

They assured that the skills gotten from the training will be put to use in an event of any emergency.

Our correspondent reports that the youths were trained in Kunini in Lau local government, Purple in Yorro, Iware in Ardo-Kola, Chinkai and Kente in Wukari local government areas.
