The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) Sulieman Amuda Yusuf and Rhoda Adetutu Olofu as Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs).

The two officers were promoted to fill vacancies left by the retirement of the DIGs in charge of Operations and Information and Communication Technology.

According to a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, PSC spokesperson, the appointments were based on seniority and performance, with both officers representing the North-Central geopolitical zone in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

“The two senior officers have maintained clean service records, and the Commission believes their promotion will serve as a motivation for improved performance within the force,” the statement read.

According to the statement, before his promotion,  Sulieman Amuda Yusuf (DIG) held several key positions in the Nigeria Police Force. He served as the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Zone 9, Umuahia, and AIG of Federal Operations at the Force Headquarters. He was also the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Taraba State and later headed the Police Mobile Force as CP.

Additionally, he served as the Deputy Commandant of the Police College in Kaduna and Oji River.

It also noted that he also held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations in Jigawa State. Earlier in his career, he was the Assistant Commissioner at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) in Bauchi State.

The PSC also disclosed that Rhoda Adetutu Olofu (DIG) has served in various strategic capacities, which includes the Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters and later becoming the AIG in charge of the Maritime Police Command in Lagos.

She also served as the Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Ports Authority Police, Western Ports Command, as well as the CP in charge of the X-Squad at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and also led the Servicom, Research & Planning Department as CP.

“Before attaining the rank of CP, she served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in the Research & Planning Department, the Admin, Training & Development Department, and the Investment, Logistics & Supply Department.

“She was also the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Establishment at the Force Secretary’s Office. “Both officers were trained at the Police Academy and were appointed as Cadet Assistant Superintendents on March 3, 1990”, the statement read.s

Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the PSC, congratulated the newly promoted officers, commending their dedication and service. He urged them to continue contributing to the growth and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force, both during their tenure and after retirement.

He also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring timely and merit-based promotions within the force. The decision, he said, has been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
