Lawyers in Osun state, yesterday continued protest against increment in filing fees in Osun state, just as the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo was on Thursday locked out of High Court premises by the protesting lawyers.
Justice Ojo was about to enter the premises aroubd 11am, when the vehile was stopped by the protesters who locked the entrance.
It was learnt that Ojo told the lawyers to open the gate but the protesters stood their ground.
Justice Ojo also told the lawyers to allow workers, who were already in the premises to go out.
It would be recalled that protests have trailed the planned introduction of new fees for filing of cases by government by lawyers.
From the available records, new fees for writ of summon increased from N4, 000 to N40, 000, while a divorce petition has also increased from N3, 000 to N25, 000 and Oath was increased from N200 to N1000.
Speaking to newsmen during the protest, the lawyers said government has commercialised justice, saying the nee fees would deny masses access to justice.
Commenting, Chief Registrar, Lawrence Arojo, pleaded with the protesters, saying the CJ as an administrative officer of the judiciary in the state, was working on the issues raised.
