An Assistant Commissioner of Police identified as Christopher Nosakhare Osakue was alleged to have committed suicide in Benin- City, Edo State capital.
It was gathered that the incident happened last Wednesday at an unnamed street, off Avan street, off Ekhator Street, Upper Sokponba road, Benin- City.
The deceased police officer was said to be in charge of Training and Development at the Edo State command before the ugly incident.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the command, Haliru Gwandu who confirmed the incident described it as a case of suicide.
Gwandu added that the pistol used by the late officer to commit the suicide was signed for in Ondo State Police Command where he was recently posted to the Edo police command.
He was said to have hosted as well as gave money to some youths in his area who visited him last Christmas period to celebrate the yuletide with members of their families.
A metallic ash Lexus Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) marked Ondo, NND 131HV was said to have been parked in front of his new bungalow.
It was learnt that operatives of Ugbekun police Division were at the deceased residence for preliminary investigation as well as to evacuate the corpse to mortuary.
A source who spoke to newsmen alleged that the police officer shot himself in the head with his service pistol inside his private residence located at Upper Sokponba road.
The source said the late ACP allegedly sent a woman and a little boy living with him on an errand before committing suicide.
He said they were however shocked to see the lifeless body of the officer in his pool of blood.
He was said to have suffered a partial stroke few years ago and was gradually recovering from it when he allegedly took his life.
It was learnt that the paralysis arising from the stroke affected his social and emotional being which may have caused depression and the resultant suicide.
He did not however leave suicide-note behind.
