Victims of fire disaster at the Onitsha Drug Market, Bridge Head, Onitsha, Anambra state have been advised to exercise patience as Willie Obiano would soon come to their aid.
Joe Akabuike, Commissioner for Health and his Commerce, Industry, Trade and Wealth Creation counterpart, Mrs Amaka Ilobi said this while on a sympathy visit to the scene of the incident.
They used the opportunity provided by the sympathy visit to assess the extent of damage.
According to them, the governor needs some time to study the outcome of the visit and find ways of encouraging the affected traders.
The incident was suspected to have started from faulty electrical installation in one of the shops and spread to six other shops.
However, the timely intervention of fire fighters from Onitsha Main Market and Building Materials International Market at Ogidi brought the situation under control.
Akabuike and Ilobi expressed their heart-felt sympathy over the losses, emphasising that they were sent by Gov. Obiano to ascertain the extent of damages and how to prevent re-occurrence.
The President-General of Amalgamated Markets Traders Association of Anambra State (AMATAS), Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo lauded the fire fighters for prompt intervention that prevented more damages in the market.
Ezenwankwo who thanked God for taking control of the situation appealed to Chief Obiano led-administration to assist the victims to enable them to bounce back in their businesses.
The President of Bridge-Head Market Traders Association, Chief Sunday Obinze and Chairman of Drug Market Dealers, under the aegis of Association of Medical and Pharmaceutical Products Dealers (AMPPDO), Mr Uche Eze sympathised with the traders.
They urged the governor to seek possible ways of compensating the affected traders as they were currently facing difficult moments due to the loss of their only means of livelihood.
