Delta State, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, in a lecture delivered at the Lagos Business School has assured local and international investors of high returns on investments when they tap into the rich business opportunities in the state. The lecture titled, ‘’Public Policy and Governance in Delta State; Opportunities and Challenges’’, was presented at a programme organized by the Lagos Business School in conjunction with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
Okowa said that partnerships between the federal and state governments with the community leaders was yielding results as peace is gradually returning to the restive region giving way for a more condusive business environment for prospective investors.
‘’There are a lot of business opportunities for investors’’, he said.
According to the governor, the vision of his administration was to make the state a leader in the country by building enduring legacy of wealth by instituting public policy imperatives that maximizes the comparative advantages of the state.
He said his government was seeking ways to develop the non-oil sector to shift reliance on the oil sector and overtake oil and gas as growth drivers.
Okowa also said that the state government had developed the Delta State Medium Term Development Plan to serve as a road map to drive rapid infrastructural development and sustain economic growth and development.
This he said was in response to the challenges posed by the drop in statutory allocation of the state and will help reduce the level of youth unemployment in the state.
The Dean, Lagos Business School who was represented by Chris Ogbechie said the school in partnership with NESG was committed to engaging with the public sector policy makers in developing and proferring solutions to developmental challenges in the country.
He reiterated the resolve of his government to create an enabling business environment for investors in the agricultural, aviation and other sectors of the economy while speaking at a business dinner/forum hosted by Pat Utomi in Lagos on Saturday.
Utomi described Delta State as the next business destination in the country stating that there were lots of untapped business opportunities in the region.
