Ogun state government has confirmed receipt of N5.7 billion Paris Club refund from the Federal Government, saying the sum of N4.5 billion will be used to offset outstanding debt of workers’ deductions owing the state workers for nine months.

Speaking in Abeokuta through a Press statement issued and made available to BusinessDay, Wale Oshinowo Commissioner for Finance, explained that N3.4 billion would be given to State government workers to offset outstanding deductions for six months, while N1.1billion would be given to Local government workers to pay off deductions for three months.

Oshinowo added that the balance of N1.2 billion would be used for state expenditure, saying that “although, the Federal Government directive was that 50% of the refund should be used for staff welfare and enumeration, the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun had decided to apportion 79% to staff enumeration and 21% for State expenditure.”

He equally assured that all the funds would be disbursed immediately to the appropriate tiers of government, just as he assured that the State government is ready to offset all outstanding staff related expenses, as soon as more funds are available.
