The Public Defender (OPD), an Office under the Ogun State Ministry of Justice says it has facilitated the release of about 200 inmates across prisons across the three Senatorial Districts in state in the last one year.
Speaking during an oversight visit of members of the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions to the State Ministry of Justice, Olumide Ayeni, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice confirmed that about 300 Human Rights and Criminal cases had also been disposed off in the year under review.

Ayeni, who was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adesola Shobayo noted that Citizen Right Department (CRD) had also secured bail for 200 suspects, just  as the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) successfully pursued 53 cases at various High Courts in the state and Court of Appeals.

He however, stated that the Ministry was working with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government such as Ministries of Commerce and Industry, Urban and Physical Planning, Finance among many others with a view to promoting legislation for improved revenue base as well as prosecuting of defaulting taxpayers, among many others.

Responding, Adebowale Ojuri, Chairman of the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, commended the management of the ministry for being proactive despite the current economic downturn, but advised the ministry to synergize with the House Committee for more efficient justice delivery system in the state.
