Nwabali breaks silence on Union Saint-Gilloise transfer rumours

Super Eagles and Chippa United first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has denied reports linking him to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian League.

The 27-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper who plays in the South African league had a heroic outing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where he helped Nigeria win a Silver medal after losing the final to the host nation Ivory Coast.

Nwabali, the Rivers State-born short stopper has been a subject of transfer speculations following his remarkable performance at the 2023 AFCON where he kept four clean sheets and conceded only four goals in seven games to help Nigeria reach the final of the tournament.

Reports claimed Royale Union Saint-Gilloise are interested in signing the Nigerian goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Speaking in a central interview with a South Africa online news platform, SNL24 the former Enyimba and Katsina United goalkeeper said he is yet to receive an official offer from any club.

“I only see offers online,” Nwabali said, as reported by SNL24.

“To be honest, some of my friends send me screenshots to say, ‘Hey bro, this offer is coming’ but to be honest, I haven’t seen an offer on my table.

“When sometimes there are rumours, I wish that they can all come to pass, but I haven’t seen any offer.”

The Nigerian shot-stopper was one of the most outstanding stars at the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast.

Nwakali was honoured by President Bola Tinubu with a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) award, and he also received a traditional title in Rivers State government for his impeccable outing in Ivory Coast,
