Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of an Abuja Federal High Court has granted former Minister of Interior affairs, Abba Moro leave to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for his medical check up.

Moro who is facing an 11-count charge of procurement fraud and money laundering preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had sought the court for release of his international passport for the trip.

Akinlolu Kehinde, who represented the former interior minister had prayed the court to allow the defendant embark on the trip, as it was premised on a follow up medical trip which the court had earlier granted him.

He is being tried alongside one-time permanent secretary in the ministry, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a deputy director in the ministry, F. O Alayebami, one Mahmood Ahmadu (at large), and Drexel Tech Nigeria Limited, a firm that was given the recruitment job, in the ill-fated Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS recruitment exercise in 2014.

Having been granted a similar application by the court, Justice Dimgba in his ruling ordered that the passport be released to him, subject to a letter of undertaking from a surety who must have property in Abuja or any member of his legal team, to ensure his return on or before the next adjourn date.

He is expected to be in the UAE for three weeks for medicals, while the matter was adjourned to May 19, 2017 for continuation of trial.
