Wife of Nigeria’s President, Aisha Buhari, has returned to London to meet her husband Muhammadu Buhari, who Nigerians are still expecting to return to the country after being away for ninety days receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
Aso Rock sources who preferred not to be named confirmed that Aisha Buhari left the shores of the country on Sunday and her trip may be part of preparation for her husband’s return. She may return to the country in the company of her husband, the source said adding that the changed schedule was yet to be confirmed.
Sources at the weekend had said all was set for the President’s return but he did not show up as planned.
This is even as Nigerians plan take to the street to protest the President’s absence from office for 90days after also spending 49 days on medical vacation, both in London.
An organization, Concerned Nigerians on Monday, converged at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, calling on the President to either resume duty or resign. The group’s leader, Deji Adeyanju, said members during its two days protests will march to the Presidential Villa to insist that the President resigns.
At separate times during the visits of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Governors under the aegis of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), President Buhari had insisted that he was ready to return to the country but was awaiting the directives of his doctors.
Aisha Buhari left the country on July 2 on her second trip to London since her husband left the shores of the country for a second medical vacation in the year. There were speculations that she had not been allowed access to her husband the first time. On her return last week, Aisha Buhari had headed to Owerri, Imo State, where attended the annual August Meeting organised by the wife of the state governor.
Her return to the country had raised expectations of the President’s imminent return as Aso Rock officials say they have been put on standby. The President’s grandchildren who went with him to London were also said to have returned to the country last week.
