The Desk Officer, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at the General Hospital in Niger, Malam Umar Abubakar, has decried the delays in capitation by most Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs).
Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Wednesday that its major challenge was HMOs holding on to NHIS capitation.
According to him, some patients are treated overtime and their HMOs will not pay until they are embarrassed by the facilitators.
He said that after two months of non-payment of bills by the HMOs they discontinue the service until the backlog was paid off before they commences service with such patients.
“They are now many things the hospital does without having to bother the state government.
“I can take you round the hospital and you will see so many projects we have executed with the scheme,” he said.
Umar, who rated the scheme 90 per cent in Niger, said that they still needed to do more so that all Nigerians could have assess to quality health care.
He called on debtors to pay their bills promptly for better service delivery.
