Enugu state governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, in Company of the minister of information Lai Mohammed launch the official launch of the Digital Switch Over, DSO, from analogue to digital Television.
The function was organised by the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC at the NTA premises, Enugu.
With this Enugu become the 5th states in Nigeria to benefit from the digital broadcasting, ten years ago after Nigeria agreed to switch over to digital broadcasting in Geneva.
The chief executive of Enugu state who expressed joy over the Digital Switch on, commanded the federal. Ministry of Information for their doggedness in making sure that the project becomes a reality, he advised the rural dwellers to key into the Digital Terrestrial Television instead of the dwindling analogue broadcasting.
To ensure that those in the rural areas benefits, the Governor procured 10, 000 set top boxes of NBC free TV to be distributed to the rural dwellers in all the 475 Autonomous communities in Enugu State to enable them key into the Digital Terrestrial Television.
“Our goal is to ensure that the less privileged have access to digital broadcasting,”
The governor also disclosed that the 100 set top boxes donated to him by the Minister of Culture and Information, Alhaji Laid.Mohammed, at the occasion would be handed over to the security agencies in the state
Speaking earlier at the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, lamented that the inability of the nation to go digital had affected Nigerians huge amount that would have accrued from advertising revenue.
Mohammed, in comparison to South Africa in terms of revenue from advertising, said that South Africa far surpasses Nigeria whereas in terms of population, Nigeria outnumbers South Africa by three times.
“The value of advertising revenue in Nigeria is lower than that of South Africa,” he laments.
