Justice Rita Ofili- Ajumogobia of a Lagos Federal High Court, has sentenced former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency, Raymond Omatseye to five years imprisonment.
The judgement was handed down in the matter brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), against the former NIMASA chief over a N1.5bn contract scam.
The EFCC had arraigned him arraigned before the court on a 27-count charge bordering on alleged contract variation, bid rigging and awarding contract above his approval limit, while he was in office, in violation of the country’s public procurement law.
He was also alleged to have, contrary to existing regulations, awarded contract to a company that was the highest bidder and which was not even pre-qualified for the contract.
