Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said his victory at the Supreme Court has given him an impetus to work and render more service to the people of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.
Ikpeazu further described it as the “victory of God, the victory of justice, the victory of David over Goliath and the victory of the common masses,” saying there was “no victor and no vanquished.”
Ikpeazu said he needed to get out of the distractions of legal tussles so that he would focus his attention and channel all his energies on service delivery, and thanked the Supreme Court for giving him the impetus to continue with his revolution of rebuilding the state.
The governor, who drew some Biblical injunction from Galatians 6:17 and repeating after Paul of Tarsus, said: “From now on, let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of my Lord Jesus.”
The governor promised that now his distractions were over, the tempo of infrastructural renewal drive in the state would be accelerated in the days ahead.
He handed out an olive branch to all his political opponents and advised them to sheathe their sword and join him in his crusade for the development of Abia State.
He also thanked the people of the state for their support and doggedness throughout the campaigns, the elections and the legal battle that had stressed the entire state, adding that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
He reaffirmed his covenant with the people and maintained that his victory was a clarion call for greater stewardship to the people of Abia, noting that he would remain consistent with his vision of putting the people first.
Augustine Ehiemere, Abia State chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while reacting to the judgment, rejected it, alleging that the verdict was teamwork between PDP and the Supreme Court judges.
Ehiemere alleged further that the verdict was also the handiwork of a cabal that had held the country to ransom for so long.
