Metuh docked for destruction of evidence

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has again arraigned the embattled Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Olisah Metuh before an FCT high court on a two-count charge bothering on destruction of evidence and mischief.

Metuh is being accused of destroying his written statement during during investigation in order to its production during trial. Metuh, who was brought to court in handcuffs, pleaded not guilty to the charges punishable under Sections 166 and 327 of the Penal Code.

Counsel to the defendant, Onyechi Ikpeazu, however, pointed out that the charges against his client attract two years in prison, therefore praying the court to grant him bail.

The trial judge, who is also the Chief Justice of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Justice Ishaq Bello, after listening to the plea, adjourned the matter till January 26 for argument on the bail application.

Metuh’s counsel in his reaction on the manner, in which his client was brought to court, said it is a violation of his rights and would be taken up appropriately.
The embattled PDP spokesman is expected to appear at the Federal High Court on Monday January 25 for a different allegation on financial crime.
Justice Bello however, ordered that Metuh be taken to prison custody, until a decision is taken on his bail.
