Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that Federal Charac- ter should not be sacrificed for merit when appointng political offceholders in the country at what ever levels.

Osinbajo said this in Cala- bar, yesterday, in his keynote lecture at the 10th memoral lecture and opening of the Justice Peter Effiong Bassey Memorial Libraries, held at the conference room of the University of Calabar.

The vice president, who deliver a lecture on ‘Social Virtures in the Nigerian Re- naissance,’ said no society can develop without hard work and core values by its citizens, saying “no modern economy in the world has excell without adopting the principle of trust and a good credit system, that is why our society must emphasis intergrity at all times.

“People should be ap- pointed on merit, not Fed- eral Character and fair treat- ment of people, not based on where they come from.”

According to the vice president, Nigeria loses 1 million people to prevent- able death every year be- cause of extreme poverty in the country, because of the inability of people to access healthcare sevices.
