President Muhammadu Buhari has formally written to the National Assembly over his 10-day medical vacation.
He therefore asked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to act on his behalf as acting President.
In a letter addressed to the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday and read by his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, the President did not state where he was travelling to.
But a statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Sunday, revealed that his principal had an ear infection and would travel to London for a 10-day medical vacation.
According to the letter, Buhari said this was in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He left the country on June 6, and is expected back on June 16.
“In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, I wish to inform the Distinguished Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from 6th-16th of June, 2016, and while I am away, the Vice President (Osinbajo) will perform the functions of my office,” the letter read in part.
