As part of strategies to deepen democracy and ensure every citizen is carried along in governance, Lagos State is working on plans to set up citizen’s information centres in different parts of the state.

The centre will serve as a one-stop shop where residents can lodge complaints and make suggestions to the government in specific areas of concern.

Steve Ayorinde, the state commissioner for information and strategy, who disclosed this while briefing the media, said the centres would give the citizens greater access to the government.

According to Ayorinde, this is in recognition of the crucial role that information management plays in the success or failure of any administration. The government, he stated, is determined to run an all-inclusive government in which everyone has a voice.

“The need to make this exhilarating model of government a success calls for creativity and innovation in the management of public information,” he said.

The commissioner also disclosed plans to set up Lagos Bureau Centres where government activities would be reported live, stressing that this initiative was to give a boost to the inclusive governance policy of the present administration.

He added that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s promise to run a transparent government and in his inaugural message on May 29, 2015, underscored its strict adherence to giving account of stewardship to Lagosians through the quarterly town hall meetings and other platforms.

He said that state-owned television station, Lagos Television (LTV), had been repositioned to further carry out its duties for prompt dissemination of information to the public.
