Kano state government has indicated interested to work with relevant federal agencies towards actualizing its rural development strategy, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed.
He made this known while receiving the Project Coordinator, Rural Access and Mobility Development Project of the Federal government at the Government House in Kano.
He stated that already, his administration has taken aerial survey, physical measurement and other technical details of rural roads in the state in preparation for keying into the federal government rural development agenda.
“So far we have selected about 6 rural roads that connect about three or more local government areas so that we can start work on them in earnest , while we have released about N40 million to our roads related agencies, to prepare their heavy plants for the projects”, governor Ganduje stressed.
The governor stated his administration is also mobilizing rural communities for sustainability of the proposed projects, saying since the state government cannot do everything alone, the intervention of the federal government is a welcome development.
Governor Ganduje stated that it has become necessary for the administration to embark on the construction of rural access roads since attention of the tiers of government is now geared towards agriculture and rural development.
Earlier, the Project Coordinator Ubandoma Bulorama informed the governor that the project is being anchored by the Federal Ministry of Transport and financed by the World Bank, French Development Agency and the African Development Bank.
Its main components, according to him, are construction and rehabilitation of roads, institutional strengthening and capacity building and rural mobility, commending Kano state government for making concerted efforts to participate in the project
