Kano division of Nigerian Customs generates N8bn in 6 months

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), says it has   generated a total sum of over #8 billion within the last six months of its operation in the year, which is above the mandated of over #7 billion set for it by leadership of the Service.

The generated revenue represents a surplus of over #681 million and this is attributable to the vigor which the Command is pursing the quest of the Comptroller –General of Service to boost the revenue generation capacity of the Federal Government.

Abba Kassium, Area Comptroller of the Command made this disclosure while responding to BusinessDay `s enquires, when he paraded some of the contrabands seized by his men in last six months within the Command.

According to Kassium, the command has also made seizure of 74 items which amounts to about #267 million within the period under review.

“The Kano/Jigawa Area Command is glad to reveal that in the half year of its operations, it was able to generate a total #8,070,570,235.37, this is above the Half Year Revenue projection of #7,389,024,423.42 gave to it by the leadership of the Service. The revenue generated is higher than the target by #681,545,811.95

“In the same vein, within the period in view, the Command also made a total seizure of seventy –four (74) items which worth about #266,944, 264.00, in term of Duty Paid Value (DPV) on them.

 “A break -down of the seizure items indicates that 41 Units of various brands of vehicles  8,677 bags of 50kg of Foreign Rice, 884 cartons of Foreign Spaghetti, and 1,955 Jerry Cans of 25 LTRS each of Foreign Vegetable Oil, were seized.

“Other items seized are: 29 Bales of Second Hand Clothes, 24 Cartons of Foreign Soap, 103 bags of (50KG each) of Foreign Sugar, 11 Sacks of Assorted Used Bags, and 88 Sacks of Assorted Used Shoes” he further disclosed.

Kassium expressed the determination of his Command to continue to boost the revenue target as well as ensure that smuggling activities are reduced to the barest level in his area of operations.
