Not fewer than 30 fishermen and loggers have been killed, and an unspecified number of them abducted when the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attacked in the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, sources said.

BusinessDay gathered that the terrorists attacked the Anadawa general area in the Mafa local government area on Monday.

According to CJTF sources, the terrorists overpowered and unleashed violence on civilians engaged in fishing, firewood, and charcoal business activities in the area, slitting many and shooting others.

The CJTF sources involved in the evacuation of the victims said 30 bodies have so far been recovered and buried according to Islamic rites.

“They slaughtered many of them, we met them in the pool of blood. We have recovered 30 dead bodies, but many people are still missing,” the sources disclosed.

According to the source, the terrorists allegedly used cutlasses to kill many of the victims, while those attempting to flee were shot with guns.

Another source said the bodies of the victims were evacuated by soldiers, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and relatives before they were buried on Tuesday.
