Henry Egbiki, EY regional managing partner for West Africa, will be honoured with the 2015 Merit Award, in the Masters’ Category, by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The award, which is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the accounting profession in particular and the country in general, will take place at Intercontinental Hotel, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, April 24, 2015.

Speaking about the award, Egbiki said he feels elated and at the same time humbled by this award. “I thank the president and members of council of ICAN for this recognition.

“This award is not just for me, it is for all partners and staff of EY, who wake up every day doing the right things for the right reasons, working with clients and colleagues with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. I am proud to be a member of this noble profession”, he said.

Egbiki is an accomplished chartered accountant, business leader, administrator per excellence, mentor and technocrat with an enviable track record of professional excellence.

Egbiki’s brilliance showed early in his life when he passed the West African School Certificate Examinations in Division One (with Distinction), having scored distinction in all subjects. He was also overall best graduating student. His performance set a record in the school.

He is a graduate of Accountancy and holds an MBA in international business. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA).

Egbiki has over 30 years of experience in the accounting professional practice, both in Nigeria and abroad. He started his accounting career in Ernst & Young (then Ernst & Whinney) as a staff trainee accountant in1987. Between 1987 and 1992, he rose to the position of assistant manager. He was promoted manager in 1992, senior manager in 1995 and in 1997, he was admitted partner. In 2005, he was elected as the country managing partner and the chief executive of Ernst & Young Nigeria.

In 2007, Henry was appointed the first-ever regional managing partner for Ernst & Young West Africa. By this position, he oversees EY business across English speaking West Africa, encompassing Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Gambia.
