Edo police

Lawan Tanko Jimeta, the new commissioner of police deployed to Edo State Police command, has read a riot act to criminals in the state, saying he will be firm in the discharge of all his undertakings to reduce crime to the barest minimum.

Lawan gave the warning while taking over the affairs of the command as the new commissioner from his predecessor, DanMallam Mohammed who was recently promoted to the rank of an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The new commissioner also promised to ensure that human rights are protected in the state.

According to him, “I will improve on the achievements of my predecessor to reduce crime to its barest minimum in the state.

“I am here not only as the Command’s Commissioner of Police but as a good friend to Edo people. My predecessor has achieved a lot but I am promising I will follow suit to ensure that this great state, very important state in this country is well secured, well protected against criminal elements and hoodlums.

“I assure the entire people of Edo State that I will be fair, humane, but I will be firm in undertaking my duties.”

“Also, I will ensure human rights are protected in the state and I solicit with officers and stakeholders in ensuring that this state is safe and well protected. I am here to ensure that the Inspector-General of Police policies are well executed in this part of Nigeria,” he said.

Earlier, the outgoing commissioner of police of the command, DanMallam Mohammed urged officers and men of the command, stakeholders and Edo State indigenes to give the needed support to the new commissioner in fighting crime and all forms of criminality in the state.

Mohammed said that the command was made up of 10 Area Commands and about 45 divisional headquarters.

He said Edo, as a nodal state to the South-South, South-East, South-West and the Northern part of the country, is always prone to criminal activities.

The former commissioner is now an Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), while his successor who is the 41st commissioner serving in the command was until the appointment, Commissioner of Mobile Police Force, Abuja.
