Halliburton scandal : Fayose denies service of suit by First lady

Ayo-Fayose

The Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has denied service on him, the libel suit reportedly filed against him by Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, over his claim that she was involved in the Halliburton corruption scandal.

The first lady was reported to have filed criminal proceedings against the sitting governor, who actually enjoys constitution immunity against any criminal prosecution.

Buhari had denied the allegation and asked the governor to reverse himself and tender apology which the governor refused, to do, claiming that he was right and that he stood by his position, leading to the libel suit filed against him.

BusinessDay can authoritatively report that the said suit, has not been served on the Governor as at the time of filing this report.

In a text message sent to our reporter in reply to if service had been done, Mike Ozekhome SAN, counsel to Fayose said : ” Not yet served on us.

“We are waiting for this legally and jurisprudentially titillating and ground breaking suit that will open up new vistas and rip open the yet undiscovered entrails of section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, which grants immunity to President, Vice President,Governors and deputy governors”.

However, there are indications that Fayose who was citing the exact page on the report regarding the Halliburton scandal, which he had threatened to publish the portion which indicted the president’s wife, could have been in error.

Although the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle cleared the air on the issue, giving a clean bill of health to Aisha, Fayose had insisted that he stood by his allegation.
