The Federal Government has been urged to take urgent steps to recruit more youths into the Police to beef up security, as more policemen should be deployed to rural areas to check crime and criminalities.

The call was made in Umuahia during a town hall/security summit organised by the Abia State Police Command.

In 21-paragraph communiqué issued at the end of the summit, it noted the need to establish additional Police stations in rural areas for effective security coverage.

It also called on government to fund the Police and other security agencies adequately to ensure optimum performance, observing the need for security agencies to collaborate in the task of combating crimes and criminalities.

It also highlighted on the need to strengthen the traditional institution to ensure community policing and that citizens should be encouraged to pay tax as it ensured provision of adequate security in various communities.

It pointed out that the employment of youths would reduce incidence of crime and criminalities, while urging youths to stay away from obnoxious acts.

Also security Agencies were enjoined to stop harassing and intimidating the citizens while carrying out their lawful duties.

On Farmers/Herdsmen clash, it said that Security Agencies had agreed to work out concrete arrangement for the maintenance of law and order in various communities while enjoining the Federal government to call Herdsmen to order to ensure sustainable peace in various communities.

The Summit was attended by; Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Yerima Irimiya incharge of zone 9,L. A Fajekwi, Brigade commander, Nigeria Army, Ohafia Barracks and Abia Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila.

Other s in attendance included Heads of all security Agencies in the state, Eze Eberechi Dick, Chairman South East Council of Traditional Rulers, Head of Fulani community , Chairman Moslem community, Aba and Umuahia and other stakeholders.
