Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu says the mandate of the Nigerian Postal Services, which is seemingly inefficient, will soon be expanded. This, he stated while answering questions from journalists during the Guests’ Forum organised by the Oyo State Correspondents Chapel, in Ibadan recently. In addition, he said the expansion would include financial inclusiveness to cater for rural areas where there are no banks.
Shittu, who said there are 158 million active lines, stressed the need to also consider the environment where these service providers operate adding that power failure, vandalism of their equipment and other challenges accounted for some of the problems.
On efforts by his ministry to help the country out of its economic recession, he said NIPOST property and development company would take care of NIPOST excess lands to develop them into shopping malls that would provide employment for youths. While saying that he was also a victim of unimpressive service delivery of network providers in the telecommunication industry and efforts are ongoing to make all telecommunication outfits give quality service to subscribers.
