Federal High Court Abuja, “rises” for Justice Chukwu

The Federal High Court headquarters in Abuja wore a mournful look on Thursday, June 9, 2016, as news of the demise of Justice Evoh Chukwu dawned on everyone, as not just a rumor but reality.
Justice Chukwu, who was well known for his unwavering stance against nonchalant attitude and delay in trial, died in the early hours of Wednesday, as a result of an undisclosed recurring ailment.
When BusinessDay Judicial correspondent visited the premises of the Federal High Court, all the courts wore a gloomy look, while litigants were spotted trooping in and out, having taken new dates for their matter, which was slated for that day.
In a statement by the court’s chief registrar, Emmanuel Gako confirmed that he died after a brief illness, and that the court had declared Thursday a work free day in honor of the departed judge.
Justice Chukwu was born on August 24, 1964 in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi state died at the age of 51.
He was a legal adviser at Karisto Industrial systems, associate counsel at Prince Chika Ezerioha and Associates, principal solicitor in Mezie Ehugbo Chambers, all in Aba, before he was appointed a judge of the Federal High Court on January 3, 2008.
He had his education at Ehugbo Central School, Ekoli Edda, Ebonyi state between 1971 and 1977, then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Okposi Ohaozara, Ebonyi state between 1977 and 1982, before he went to study law at the Imo state University, and then got admitted to the Nigerian Law School between 1987 and 1988.
