One Hassan Mohammed working for the Aviation Security (AVSEC) arm of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been arrested for allegedly pilfering $600 from an intending passenger’s hand luggage at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano.
It was learnt that Mohammed stole the money from the intending passenger’s bag while the owner was undergoing a pat down.
According to sources, “After he dropped his bag to go through the metal detector, he noticed that the bag was not properly zipped. He opened it and realized that some monies were missed from his bundle of dollar bills. It was $600. He raised an alarm. Mohammed and one other staff became the prime suspects. When both men were checked, they found the money on Mohammed.”
On interrogation, Mohammed was said to have confessed that he saw through an x-ray machine that there was some money in the bag and had to open and take some of it while the passenger was being screened.
Mohammed, born in Kogi state is said to be new in the system being employed and placed on GL 8, according to source, the suspect was reprimanded and transferred from the international screening point to the hajj and cargo section of the airport.
