Ibezim Chukwunonso, Ndubuisi “Jumbo” Christian, Daniel James, Gregory Aikpoko and Onyeka Chuks are passionate fans of Enyimba International FC.

Onu “Pedro” Charles, Obasi “Harry” Harrison, Okoronkwo Obumneme, Humphrey Nnoruka Murphy and Akueche Chidera are fans of arch rivals Enugu Rangers. Earlier in the NPFL season, they all watched as Enyimba defeated Rangers 2-1 in one of the most hotly contested derbies of recent years before a capacity crowd at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu

On this week’s episode of Star Lager’s ground breaking nationwide football platform Star Football Superfans, the two groups of fans faced off in a scintillating studio version of Nigeria’s most intense Oriental derby. Bearing their fan names “The People’s Elephant” and “The Flying Antelopes” respectively, they followed in the footsteps of football fans from Season 1 who represented clubs like AC Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea, Mancjester United and Real Madrid.

A wowed Mozez Praiz took centre stage to announce the results but at this stage, everyone in the arena knew the outcome – a goal for Enyimba to wrap up a 2-1 victory! The bouncing quintet joyously stepped out to collect their N1 million cheque as soon as he made the announcement and despite their valiant performance, The Flying Antelopes had to make do with the N100,000 consolation prize.

Speaking afterward, Kufre Ekanem remarked, “It is a thing of pride for Star to be the force behind Nigeria’s biggest and most recognizable football platform but even more rewarding for us is to see how much it means to football fans for their passion to be recognized. The best part about it is that everyone is invited. The message is that everyone doesn’t have to be a fan of Real Madrid or Chelsea or Arsenal or Bayern Munich. They can also be fans of Enyimba or Rangers or 3SC or Sharks and their passion will also be recognized. This is the brand message of Star – inspiring young Nigerians to shine and be great no matter where they are.”

After a massively successful debut season featuring appearances from fans of some of the world’s biggest football clubs including Arsenal, AC Milan, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United, the second season of the Star Football Superfans platform is now open for football fans across the country to display their knowledge and passion for Nigeria’s number one sport and get rewarded for it.
