Edo State House of Assembly has summoned the management of construction firms handling the construction of Benin-Okene dual-carriage road to appear before it next week Tuesday.

BusinessDay reports that the construction firms are Dantata and Sawoe, MotherCat and Reynolds Construction Company as well the zonal comptroller of Federal Ministry of Works, Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and the Edo State Rapid Response Agency.

The motion was sequel to a Matters of Urgent Public Importance moved by Monday Ehighalua, a PDP lawmaker representing Esan West constituency. He called on the Federal Government and other relevant government agencies to fix all the failed potions of Benin-Okene highway, especially from Aduwawa, Ujoelen-Okpoji junctions to Okpilla in Etsako East Local Government Area.

The House said the purpose of the invitation was for the agencies to explain to the people of the state on why the road project was abandoned immediately after the last general elections.

Earlier, the mover of the motion, Monday Ehighalua, noted that as part of its infrastructural development programmes, the PDP-led Federal Government awarded the Benin-Okene highway for construction in order to aid free flow of movement.

He said no sooner had the 2015 general elections ended than the contracting firms abandoned the project thereby making it not motorable, subjecting the users to untold hardship.

Speaker of the House, Victor Edoror, while rounding off the submission of members, directed the authorities of the construction firms and FERMA to appear before the House on Tuesday.

He also directed that copy of the resolution should be made available to the firms, the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and the chairmen of the local government councils within the jurisdiction of the road project.
