The 73rd General Church Council (GCC) of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has raised the alarm over worsening insecurity across Nigeria, describing the situation as tragic and unacceptable while calling for decisive and sustained government intervention.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Council meeting held at ECWA International Headquarters in Jos, signed by Ayuba Bagat and Ayuba Asheshe, president and secretary respectively on behalf of the Council and made available to journalists on Friday in Jos.

“The Council expresses profound grief and strong concern over the continued loss of lives and destruction of property among its members as a result of persistent insecurity across the nation.

“These tragic and unacceptable developments highlight the escalating security challenges confronting citizens’ safety and well-being, particularly in vulnerable communities.

“The Council therefore calls on all levels of government to intensify efforts to fulfill their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property through sustained, intentional, and effective security interventions,” the Council said.

Beyond insecurity, the Council announced key decisions including the election of Chidi Madubuko as vice-president, replacing Sunday Ajise, while Ayuba Asheshe was returned unopposed for a second term.

It also approved the creation of three new District Church Councils on a two-year probationary period, bringing the total number to 100, as part of efforts to strengthen administration and mission outreach.

The Council further endorsed a major development project at Garam near Abuja and encouraged members to support it through structured crowdfunding initiatives for timely delivery.

In addition, it resolved to restructure the Church for stronger global mission engagement and announced plans to pilot a centralised salary scheme for workers beginning January 2027.

Other highlights include commendation of Bingham University for its growth, the rebranding of ECWA Television to Bingham Television, and a call for increased support for missionary activities, improved road infrastructure, unity in Kano, and active participation in the 2027 general election.
