President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met with Governor Martins Elechi of Ebonyi State; David Umahi, the deputy governor and PDP governorship candidate for Ebonyi in the April 11 poll, and other concerned parties at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, ostensibly to save the embattled governor from impeachment.
The Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Friday served Governor Martins Elechi an impeachment notice. It is alleging misappropriation of state funds by the governor, among other sundry charges.
The meeting, which lasted for about five hours in the president’s office began at about 11a.m and ended at 4p.m, had in attendance some PDP governors led by the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) and Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio.
