Agents of the Department of State Services (DSS) have launched a raid on the Aba residence of Ejiuche Ubani, a former House of Representative member, and current commissioner of works in Abia State.
The DSS officers in company of soldiers, who came to Ubani’s residence in six Hilux vans, were said to have invaded the commissioner’s home at 2am, Tuesday, in respect to a petition against him, alleging that he was stockpiling arms and also training people to disturb the peace of Abia State.
He was also alleged to be hatching plans to assassinate leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state, including Alex Otti and another person, identified as Ahamdi Nweke.
Ubani, who was perplexed at the development, while addressing the press Tuesday afternoon, expressed shock that the DSS could not respect his fundamental rights by inviting him over to their office first, before invading his home, and described the action, as dehumanising.
He alleged that the incident was premeditated to either intimidate or humiliate him or to find a way to harm him.
Recounting his ordeal in the hands of the security agents, Ubani noted that the team led by one Steven Agu, from the DSS Abuja, invaded his house at 2am on Tuesday, in six Hilux vans and gained entry into his compound by breaking his front gate.
He said immediately the DSS operatives came into the compound, they started banging on the door to the main house, but when he hesitated in opening the door, the DSS operatives then turned to the boys quarters and broke the door leading to the room of his driver and seized him and started beating him.
He said when he finally opened the door that the DSS officials now approached him and showed him a copy of a search warrant, prepared by the DSS office in Umuahia and preceded in search his house.
According to Ubani, “No where was spared, no where was respected. My wife’s valuables were turned upside down, including her vanity box and that of my children.
“Wardrobes were broken and they searched everywhere. They searched the ceiling and surprisingly, the water tank, which is about 20 meters up. They climbed it, to be able to search there.
“And when I asked them what they were doing? they said they were looking for arms. That they got a report that I was stockpiling arms and training people to disturb the peace of Abia State and to assassinate leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, beginning with Alex Otti as well as other people, including one man identified as Ahamdi Nweke.
“And after searching for a very long time, they came and wrote on a piece of paper that they have searched the house thoroughly including the ceiling and that they could not find anything incriminating and then they signed the paper and also asked me to sign.
“And after a very long wait for order from above, they left at 6am.
“So, I was held in this house for four hours. I thank God that my family is not here, I thank God that my two little children were not around to witness this, and otherwise it would have given them a scare.
“One boy wrote something on facebook that I have recruited him alongside other people from Port Harcourt, Abala and other places and that I have procured 150 guns to be distributed last night at 11pm and on the strength of that these people came at 2am to invade my house, “he stated.
