Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, at Wednesday plenary, dismissed reports on the disappearance of the 2016 budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari on December 22, 2015.
Dogara, who confirmed the availability of copies of the budget proposal, also directed the Clerk of the House, Sani Omolori, to display the ceremonial copy presented by the President to members.
The speaker also directed all the members to obtain copies of the budget proposal from the office of the House Committee on Appropriations.
“In view of the rumour, it is important for the Clerk to show the budget as it was presented by the President. No office was broken into while we are on break, so how did the report emerged that the budget is missing,” he said.
The Clerk, who was the custodian of the budget, also opened the sealed carton of the budget proposal and showed them to the lawmakers for confirmation.
To this end, the speaker urged the media to always verify the information being transmitted to the public and “also seek clarification on certain matters when it becomes necessary to do so.”
