For eight weeks now, Star Lager has powered Nigeria’s largest football TV gameshow, Star Football SuperFans and in that time, Chelsea fans have recorded only one win. This week’s episode saw them maintain that dreadful run of form on the platform through which Star rewards football fans for the passion and knowledge regarding the game.

The unlucky Chelsea quintet known as Blues FC, made up of Ike Festus, Odafe Samson Arugba, Anthony Effiong, Adeleye Stephen and Unuagbon Michael Osa fell 0-2 in extra time after ending full time with the score at 0-0. Team Red Devils, made up of Manchester United fans Gabriel Chukwuma Ottah, Unogu Armstrong Nnaji, Adebayo David Sola, David Onyinyechi Ndinne and Otabor Lucky were the lucky guys who took the N1 million star prize home while Blues FC had to make do with the N100, 000 consolation prize.

Host Mozez Praiz has presided over clashes, which had more goals and more incidents, but he probably found this episode the most passionate as both teams made it ferociously clear that they wanted to win. Both missed their first two questions but once Anthony scored the game’s first 10-pointer for Blues FC, the game sparked into life. Sola and Stephen then scored 20-pointers for Red Devils and Blues FC respectively before David and Michael responded with 10-pointers of their own. Lucky’s miss ensured the first half ended at 0-0.

The second half kicked off in much the same pattern with both teams trying repeatedly but failing to make incursions into the opposing territory. Only one question was answered correctly as both teams revved up the 20-pointers to leave the full time score at 0-0.

Finally, it was time to unveil the winner of the vote and the winner of the N1 million star prize and everyone waited with bated breath as Mozez Praiz announced – Team Red Devils! The audience erupted into further chants of “Armstrong! Armstrong! Armstrong!” as the most popular man in the house celebrated joyfully.
