Life Lager Beer has launched a new entrepreneurship campaign aimed at promoting the Southeast’s traditional apprenticeship system, popularly known as “Nwa Boi” or Igba Boi, as a pathway to generational wealth and business success.

The initiative, tagged “The NwaBoi Experience,” seeks to tap into the region’s long-standing culture of mentorship, trade, and enterprise by supporting young entrepreneurs with training, mentorship, and funding opportunities.

The campaign comes at a time when Nigeria’s informal economy continues to play a major role in economic growth and job creation. According to recent estimates, the informal sector contributes about 58.2 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), highlighting the importance of grassroots entrepreneurship in sustaining livelihoods.

Life Beer said the initiative draws inspiration from the centuries-old Igbo apprenticeship model, which gained wider prominence in the post-civil war era of the 1970s and has since become one of the largest informal business incubation systems globally.

Under the system, young apprentices, commonly referred to as “Nwa Boi,” are placed under experienced business owners to learn trade, discipline, customer relations, accountability, and financial management over an agreed period. At the end of the apprenticeship, the mentor, known as the “Oga,” settles the apprentice with startup capital, goods, or business connections to help them establish independent ventures.

The beer brand said its latest campaign is designed to modernise and amplify the entrepreneurial values embedded in the apprenticeship structure.

Open to participants aged 18 and above across southeastern Nigeria, the programme invites applicants to submit business ideas through the official NwaBoi Experience platform, detailing innovative approaches to beer sales and distribution.

From the entries received, 30 participants will be selected for business training and mentorship focused on entrepreneurship, value creation, and market development. Three outstanding participants will eventually receive mentorship support and a grand prize of N10 million seed capital to establish beer distribution businesses.

Life Beer said the initiative reflects the same principles that have sustained the traditional apprenticeship system for decades — learning, growth, enterprise development, and the transfer of opportunities to others.

The brand noted that trade and commerce in southeastern Nigeria go beyond transactions, describing them as deeply tied to community identity, mentorship, and intergenerational wealth creation.

Known for its strong cultural roots in southeastern Nigeria, Life Lager Beer has historically been associated with celebrations, social gatherings, and communal events across the region.

With the launch of The NwaBoi Experience, the company said it aims to redefine how brands engage with local culture by creating initiatives that combine heritage with economic empowerment.

The company added that the campaign is expected to help nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs while reinforcing the role of indigenous business systems in driving financial independence and long-term economic inclusion.
