The Nigeria Army has begun de-radicalization programme for additional 43 Boko Haram members who recently surrendered to troops of Operation Lafia Dole in Borno state.

The insurgents were airlifted to Gombe on Saturday.
The de-radicalization programme is being run under the “Operation safe corridor” which was initiated by the federal government in 2016.

The programme is aimed at encouraging the
Insurgents to lay down their arms and embrace the de-radicalization programme so as to be reintegrated into the society .

Over 90 repentant Boko Haram fighters are currently undergoing the de-radicalization and rehabilitation programme.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Director Public Relations ,Theatre Command,Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, the Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru assured that the insurgents would be a new lease of life.

“assurance that the penitent insurgents will be given a new lease of life as they commence their journey back into the civil society through the de-radicalization and rehabilitation processes.

“i urge you to further embrace and undertake the programme wholeheartedly to enable you benefit and positively reorient your views about life and the society in general.
” I call on all other insurgents to abandon the futile struggle and reject the hypocrisy of the Boko Haram leadership who live in affluence, while their foot soldiers die in hunger.

It will be recalled that over 70 Boko Haram insurgents had earlier this month, surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole in the North East, thus, taking advantage of the window of grace provided by the Federal Government for insurgents who are willing to give up terrorism and turn a new leaf to surrender to any military location closest to them.
