Average price paid for petrol, kerosene, others inches up in August

The average prices paid by consumers for premium motor spirit (petrol), household kerosene, as well as diesel increased slightly in August 2019, as revealed by National bureau of statistics report.

The report which was released on Tuesday shows that the average price paid by consumers for Petrol increased by 0.3 percent month-on-month to N145.5 in August from N145.0 in July 2019, while the Average price per litre paid by consumers for National Household Kerosene increased by 1.24 percent month-on month to N319.94 in August 2019 from N316.03 in July 2019.

Similarly, the average price paid by consumers for automotive gas oil (diesel) increased by 1.83 percent month-on-month to N229.08 in August from to N224.96 in July 2019.

According to the report, Katsina, Zamfara and Kaduna states recorded the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) at N142.50, N144.33) and N144.68 respectively while states with the highest average price were Bayelsa, Cross river and Kogi states at N146.78, N146.76) and N146.75 respectively.

Similarly, states with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Abia (N375.55) , Enugu (N365.47), and Ebonyi (N358.33), while states with the lowest average price per litre of kerosene were Abuja (N245.50), Kwara (N261.11) and Benue (N261.90).

“States with the highest average price of diesel were Borno, Niger and Taraba at N271.00, N257.14 and N250.75, while states with the lowest average price of diesel were Yobe at N205.00, Ekiti at N206.00 and Bayelsa at N209.64”.

“States with the highest average price per gallon of kerosene were Gombe, Adamawa and Borno at N1,400.00, N1,360.00 and N1,355.00, and states with the lowest average price per gallon of kerosene were Bayelsa at N1,030.00, Akwa Ibom at N1,079.58 and Osun at N1,085.22”.
