The North West zonal executive committee of the All Peoples Congress, APC, has set up a four-member fact finding committee on the leadership scuffle in the Kano state chapter of the party.

During a visit to the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in his office, the chairman of the committee, Senator Muhammadu Magoro, explained that it was necessitated by a resolution received by the party, from the state chapter, passing a vote of no confidence on the party chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa and the Organizing Secretary, Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso.

The state executive committee, he noted, went further to resolve to appoint Abdullahi Abbas as acting Chairman and Ahmed Speaker as acting Organizing Secretary.

He, however, pointed out that the ousted chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa appealed against the decision, in line with section 21 B and C of the party constitution, leading the Zonal executive committee to form the fact finding committee, to look into the procedure and processes followed, to ensure that peace and decorum prevail.

Senator Magoro explained that the fact finding committee was mandated “to examine the propriety of the decision taken by the state exco of the party in removing the chairman and to determine whether the decision is in accordance with the constitution of the party”.

The chairman added that his committee would also examine whether the state executive committee of the party has the power to appoint an Acting Chairman and Organizing Secretary, respectively, for the party.

“We are not here to investigate and to pass judgment on whether somebody is right or somebody is wrong. That is the essence. I think if we achieve that, it will give us an opportunity as a party to move forward and find a permanent solution to the problem”, Senator Magoro asserted.

On his part, the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje promised that enabling environment would be made available for the fact finding committee to do its work well.

“ All the procedures, will be put at your disposal  for verification and you shall get access to documents, verbal statements and even signatories of documents would appear before you”, he assured.

Saying it is the responsibility of the government and other stakeholders to see that the party remains intact, he expressed optimism, that the committee, which he noted, comprises experienced party stakeholders, will do a good job.
