Ayodele Musibau Kusamotu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the ruling party was not taking seriously the burning issue of restructuring.
In a statement he signed Wednesday in Lagos, Kusamotu cautioned the party’s national leadership against falling into the temptation of taking Nigerians for granted, noting that the issue of restructuring is people-oriented and a call that will continue to resonate even if the party continues to ignore it.
The principal partner, Kusamotu & Kusamotu (the Greenfish Chambers) also wondered why the party appointed the Kaduna State governor as the chairman of the committee on restructuring, since the governor had severally voiced out his opposition to the idea. He described the appointment as ironic.
He urged the party to gauge the pulse of the people and implement their wishes, stressing that anything short of that could be counter-productive for the APC as “it might lose the goodwill and sympathy it enjoyed in the last general elections.”
On the way forward, Kusamotu said: “There is the need for internal democracy and a participatory democratic process that sees all card-carrying members of the party as stakeholders whose voices must be heard.”
The former Federal House of Representatives aspirant in Osun State added that his preoccupation now is empowering members of his constituents, especially the youths, women and the vulnerable, among others, adding that he believes in grassroots mobilisation and human capacity development.
