Governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode will today deliver the convocation lecture of Wellspring University, Benin City, titled ‘Recession: Challenges and Recovery Prospects.’
Obi Ikediugwu, a professor and vice chancellor of the university, disclosed this in Benin City at a press conference to flag off the institute’s convocation ceremony.
Ikediugwu said the choice of Governor Ambode to deliver the lecture was because of his developmental strides in Lagos since the inception of his administration.
The University Council is also convinced to choose the governor because of his prudent management of resources as an accountant, he said, saying, “The hardworking governor retired as the Accountant-General of Lagos State after 27 years of meritorious service. You will agree with me that we have a lot to learn from him.”
The VC further disclosed that Wellspring University had embarked on an ambitious five-year development plan.
According to Ikediugwu, the plan, which commenced in the 2017/2018 academic year, focuses on growing facilities towards further consolidation of the institution’s academic degree options with the objective of nurturing Wellspring University into an institution renowned in Information Technology and Management.
Wellspring University is unique as a private university and secular university that emphasises the fear of God in the daily lives of students, as they are rigorously exposed to the scholarly and entrepreneurial pursuit of their respective disciplines, he said.
“In the university’s philosophy and objective, we seek to produce leaders equipped with relevant knowledge for solving societal and human problems through the use of curricula that are result-oriented and which promote the inculcation of the fear of God,” he said.
He said that 218 students are graduating in the convocation with 6.4percent in the first-class honours, 43.6percent second-class honours upper division, 44.0percent second class honours lower division and 6.0percent in the third-class division.
He maintained that Wellspring University has enjoyed eight academic years of smooth and uninterrupted progress as a result of highly experienced and deeply committed, and student body ably led by excellently innovative leadership.
